RTTY PRINTER

RTTY printer

Put received radio text on paper: a compact recreation of an old RTTY teleprinter using a microcontroller and thermal printer.

PS RTTY PRINTER

A compact RTTY receiver/printer combining Seeed Studio XIAO ESP32S3 and a 58 mm TTL thermal printer. It decodes RTTY audio from a radio or PC and prints on thermal paper.

USB mode prints text from a PC. With PSRTTY’s printer feature, main-window RX/TX text can be printed.

Schematics, firmware and build/setup details are on GitHub. Check the latest repository instructions before building.

Audio input

Receive RTTY audio directly

Detect MARK/SPACE from 3.5 mm audio and decode ITA2/Baudot. Supports 45.45 baud, 170 Hz shift, MARK 2125 Hz / SPACE 2295 Hz. Prints a line on newline or a period without signal.

Switching

Three modes

MODE cycles AUDIO NORMAL, AUDIO REVERSE and USB. Audio mode supports normal or reversed MARK/SPACE polarity. Starts in AUDIO NORMAL.

PSRTTY integration

Print RX/TX text over USB

Set USB mode and configure File → RTTY printer in PSRTTY. Select RX, TX or both; test printing, short-text filtering and queue clearing are available.

Electronics project

Build it yourself

An experimental build with XIAO ESP32S3, 58 mm printer, audio input and buttons. Flash with Arduino IDE. See GitHub for components, power, wiring and programming settings.

This is an amateur-radio/electronics experiment. Behavior depends on audio levels and the printer module. For build and adjustment details, see GitHub documentation.
