Connection
Connect CAT to REMOTE CI-V. This guide uses rear 13-pin DATA: TX pin 1 MOD, TX ground pin 2 MOD(E); RX pin 5 AF(M) with pin 9 AF(E); external PTT pin 7 SEND. Pinout differs from 8-pin ACC(1): use a compatible DATA-port cable. No built-in USB audio.
Radio settings · AFSK
Use plain LSB for AFSK. No LSB-D or USB audio input switching. Disconnect the microphone, turn COMP OFF if fitted and check external DATA audio.
| Item | Setting / check |
|---|---|
| Mode | Use plain LSB for AFSK. No LSB-D or USB audio input switching. Disconnect the microphone, turn COMP OFF if fitted and check external DATA audio. |
| DATA (13-pin) pin 1 MOD | TX audio to DATA pin 1 MOD. VR UNIT S1: 100 mV side = 10 kΩ/100 mV rms; 3 mV side = 600 Ω/3 mV rms. Independent of MIC GAIN: keep working FT8 settings, adjust interface/PSRTTY volume. |
| DATA (13-pin) pin 5 AF(M) | Pin 5 AF(M) is fixed MAIN RX output independent of AF. Connect with pin 9 AF(E) to Audio IN. Pin 10 AF(S) is SUB output, unused in this guide. |
| DATA pin 2 MOD(E) / pin 9 AF(E) | TX audio ground: pin 2 MOD(E). RX ground: pin 9 AF(E). Follow model-specific interface wiring. |
| DATA pin 7 SEND | Compatible PTT circuit grounds pin 7 SEND for TX. In PSRTTY select external PTT and match COM, RTS/DTR and polarity. |
| CI-V Address | Default 2Eh. Match PSRTTY to the radio’s actual CI-V address. |
| CI-V baud (PC) | Standard: 1200 bps. If FT8 CAT works, use that baud rate in PSRTTY. On these older models the setting is internal, not a front-panel menu item. |
| Audio TX level | Start with low PC/interface/PSRTTY TX volume. There is no USB MOD Level setting on the radio. |
| MAIN / SUB / SAT | Ordinary QSOs: SAT OFF; use M/S to put the operating band on MAIN. Select LSB on MAIN. Match TX frequency and DATA pin 5 RX to MAIN; check you are not configuring SUB. |
| VR UNIT S1 → MOD input level | TX audio to DATA pin 1 MOD. VR UNIT S1: 100 mV side = 10 kΩ/100 mV rms; 3 mV side = 600 Ω/3 mV rms. Independent of MIC GAIN: keep working FT8 settings, adjust interface/PSRTTY volume. |
FSK keying transmission · Ver1.18
Example: DTR for FSK and CI-V/CAT for PTT. Adjust settings to your wiring and selected signals.
The manufacturer manual specifies AFSK operation for this model. Native direct FSK keying is not supported; use normal AFSK mode.
If FT8 already works
If FT8 works in plain USB through the same external audio device, keep wiring/gain first, switch the radio to LSB and test RTTY. Do not switch to LSB-D.
PSRTTY settings · AFSK
In PSRTTY 1.16 select external PTT and match the compatible interface COM, RTS/DTR and polarity. CI-V CAT, audio and PTT are separate paths. Automatic mode switching on connection OFF; select plain LSB on the radio. Choose explicit external Audio IN/OUT and the exact radio model.
No modulation
Compare FT8/PSRTTY output devices → check radio mode → TX audio to MOD and RX audio from AF → interface levels. If CAT works but no modulation, check audio cable and Audio OUT first. Ordinary QSOs: SAT OFF; use M/S to put the operating band on MAIN. Select LSB on MAIN. Match TX frequency and DATA pin 5 RX to MAIN; check you are not configuring SUB.
